Sitting at the foot of the Mount Kenya is the privately owned Sweetwaters Game Reserve that is about 24000 acres in area size. The reserve is one of the closest places near Nairobi to spot elephants, lion, leopard, buffalo, grevy zebra, giraffe, cheetah, Thompson’s gazelle, black-back jackals, ostrich, grant’s gazelle, baboons, waterbucks, oryx, eland and several hundred bird species. The snow capped peaks of Mount Kenya down to open plains creates a breath taking landscape compared to no other. It also houses a Chimpanzee Sanctuary which is a home for chimps brought in from Burundi, to protect them from bush-meat trade and the on-going destruction of the rain forest that thrives in the country.
