Meru National Park in the old Northern Frontier District, is wild Africa at its most alluring. Meru is certainly one of the prettiest parks in Kenya and boasts many of the same species as Samburu - Grevy Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, and Gerenuk - but without the crowds! It doesn't have the quantity of game to be found in the Masai Mara but nor does it have the crowds. It also offers excellent camp luxury and exclusivity. The animals are shy, unused to their human counterparts, and the park is singular in Kenya for being the driest, with little rainfall, and at the same time resplendent with thirteen rivers and numerous streams running off the nearby mountains. The result is a striped landscape with lush green ribbons running through dry brown valleys. Well worth a visit if you are looking to get away from the crowds...
