Twiga Tours - The Premier Safari Operator
Established in 1980, Twiga Tours begins its 29th year as a luxury Inbound Safari Operator in East Africa. We have
deliberately confined ourselves to this region of Africa as this is the land of our birth and we want to focus all our
love and attention on our guests’ experiences in our homeland rather than pretend to be experts of 53 countries of
Africa. We know East Africa best as both Rajab and Minaz Manji, were born here, have lived here ever since and
travelled extensively within East Africa.
On a lighter note, most people fondly associate Twiga Tours as Rajab and Minaz and vice versa as both have
played an active role and, continue to do so, from its’ humble beginnings to becoming a leading Inbound Safari
Operator in East Africa. We are even more proud to be referred to as a ‘small boutique’ Safari Operator as this
description aptly reflects our style – to provide the Manji family’s personal care and African
hospitality to every one of our guests. That was a vision 29 years ago and continues to remain to the present day!
To ‘pop’ open a bottle of champagne with a huge smile at the airport, celebrate a special occasion such as
birthday or wedding anniversary, enjoy a surprise ‘out of Africa’ picnic in the African bush and enjoy dinner with
the Manji’s in their family home on the outskirts of Nairobi has been our tradition and we are flattered that many
companies try to emulate our personal warmth and hospitality.
We are not a mass market Company but a small efficiently run family Company who care deeply about delivering
the personal warmth, experience and African hospitality of the Manji family.
AFRICA THROUGH THE EYES OF THE MANJI'S
Born on the shores of Lake Victoria and educated at local schools in Kisumu and later Nairobi, Rajabali graduated
from high school and opted to live his life travelling extensively around East Africa whilst engaging in what was
then known as ‘trade the bush’. This yearning for nature and village life helped shape the early formative years of
Minaz who, upon graduation from high school, proceeded to the UK for further education in Financial Accounting.
Upon his return and subsequent internship at an international audit and accountancy firm Minaz could not resist
the lure of an outdoor life and in 1980 teamed up with his father, Rajabali to start a premier safari company to
share the joy and excitement of living in Africa. The wisdom and extensive knowledge of East Africa of Rajabali
and the strong financial background of the younger Manji were essential ingredients to success but, more
importantly, the traditional hospitality of the Manji family made the difference in an industry full of international
players! Ours was a vision to provide warm traditional African hospitality to all our guests visiting East Africa rather
than have a number attached to every client.
We are proud and delighted to offer our personal warmth and care to every visitor who arrives as a client but
leaves as part of the extended Manji family.
Shazmin and Rahim, Minaz’s two children, returned home a couple of years ago after graduating from universities
in Canada and the United Kingdom to join the family business. They bring into the company a wealth of innovative
ideas, business acumen and above all, their warm traditional African hospitality – a family combination that
surpasses any in the industry and one that will ensure our guests continue to receive the same warm African
hospitality that has been a tradition for the past 29 years.
OUR REPUTATION SPEAKS FOR ITSELF
Our track record speaks for itself – 29 years of experience and well over 100,000 guests cannot be wrong! They
have heaped accolade upon accolade on our hospitality and seamless service that we offer from arrival to
departure and we have no hesitation in sharing these with you. And, whilst many Tour Companies would have us
believe that the offices and vehicles that they subcontract their business to are “their own Offices and Vehicles”
Twiga Tours, on the contrary, owns a network of Offices in Nairobi, Mombasa and Arusha fully staffed by the
Twiga Tours Team of experts and backed by an extensive fleet of custom designed state-of-the-art 4X4 safari
vehicles fully maintained by us. The obvious advantage is that our guests are accorded the same level of personal
hospitable service everywhere in East Africa with the added advantage that they do not have to change vehicles
at the border when driving from one East African country to another nor would you have to say goodbye to the
Safari Director and Guide-Driver who have been your travelling companions and joyful company in your first
country of travel and who you will have grown fond of but, instead, with Twiga Tours will continue with them
throughout your entire safari.
OUR SAFARI DIRECTORS & GUIDE DRIVERS
Speaking of our Safari Directors and Guide-Drivers, they are by far the best in East Africa not just for their
knowledge and understanding of the flora and fauna but as affable travelling companions. And, we deliberately
refer to our Guide-Drivers as just that as they are professional guides who can drive rather than a Driver who
‘tries’ to fill the role of a Guide. This is more apparent when vehicles are subcontracted from other transport
providers – it certainly saves on costs but compromises on quality. Personally handpicked by Minaz Manji our
Safari Directors and Guide-Drivers must have a minimum bronze level qualification as well as undergo an
intensive in-house training programme unique to Twiga Tours before being accepted into the mainstream of the
Company. We have set a high standard of service in the industry which is appreciated by our guests and
acknowledged by the industry.
OUR CUSTOM DESIGNED SAFARI VEHICLES
We guarantee you a 4X4 custom designed state-of-the-art safari vehicle and, above all, give you a choice on
whether you would like to travel in a 4X4 safari minivan or the extended 4X4 Land Cruiser/Rover. Most Tour
Companies will provide a 2X2 safari minivan on the pretext that a 4X4 vehicle is unnecessary during the hot dry
season. However, East Africa is in the tropics and a short burst of shower is not uncommon and is usually
welcome to cool down the temperature and settle the African dust. This then poses a serious challenge to an
average 2x2 vehicle to manoeuvre the difficult muddy conditions and thus a 4X4 safari vehicle is a must for game
tracking. Twiga vehicles are additionally equipped with a cooler chest stocked with-ample ice cold bottled water, a
binocular, safari field guides and two-way HF long range Radio Communications system interlinked to all our
three offices for easy communication.
WE ARE PROUD TO BE LOCAL!
The Manji’s were born in East Africa and have an extensive knowledge of local conditions that only local people
know. We are NOT based in a foreign capital with a presence in East Africa but instead have four Offices
strategically located within the prime safari circuits of East Africa. These Offices have their own teams of full-time
staff members who are experts in their knowledge of the region and who are also directly under the close
supervision of the Manji’s - you are assured of their personal attention at all times. Being locally based we have
excellent relations and contract rates with ALL service providers with the nett result that you enjoy the savings we
are able to negotiate while enjoying privileged service! More importantly, unlike international companies whose
only interest is profits, our local presence ensures our profits remain within the region thus enabling us to
contribute to employment, re-investment in staff training and to many development projects first hand.
